Miscarriage Services in Wales – Progress…?

Whilst there has been some pleasing progress in the campaign to improve miscarriage services in Wales recently, there has still been a worrying lack of action from Welsh Government on this issue.

This report from BBC Wales highlights that women are still experiencing substandard care in Wales, and NICE guidelines are regularly not met by health boards.

In 2018 Welsh Government commissioned a gender equality review in their aim of becoming a feminist government. Two of the key health recommendations in this report were in relation to miscarriage care, in particular, echoing our call for two recurrent miscarriage clinics to be established in Wales, one in North Wales and one in South Wales.

We have approached Welsh Government to urge them to take steps to action these recommendations. As the report highlights, a number of health boards, such as Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, are doing their bit to improve services – it is now time to see decisive and meaningful action from Welsh Government.
